Frequently Asked Questions

Who are our typical physiotherapy clients?

We treat active people over the age of 40 who are serious about getting better and committed to their rehab.  If you value your health, want to avoid medication, void surgery and are willing to work with us a team, then we can help you.  We provide hands on treatment but we also need you to follow the advice and do the rehab required.  We don’t believe in quick fixes for long standing pain but we do know what works.  If you don’t want to accept a life of pain and stiffness then we can help. We don’t believe age should be a limiting factor and we are committed to helping you live longer with more vitality and energy.

Where are we located?

We are located at 11 Mearns Road, Carkston (G76 7ER) and Largs yacht Haven in Largs (KA30 8EZ). Both have free parking nearby and comfortable, private treatment rooms for you to meet your physio with.

Is Physio right for me?
Not sure if Physio is the right thing for you? Why not book a FREE Fit for Physio appointment. A 10 minute consultation where you get to meet one of our physios and chat about your pain, needs or goals. We will then advise you as to whether this is something we can help with. No risk and no cost.

Do I need a GP referral?
Not usually, unless your own private health insurance requires it. In most cases you can self-refer. We work closely with GPs and hospital consultants (both NHS and private) and we are recognised by all of the major health insurance companies. Doctors often prescribe pain relief and rest. They do this because they have limited time to assess you fully. That’s how we can help.
Can I use my health insurance?
Of course, we would be delighted to receive payment through your insurance provider, after all isn’t that what insurance is for. All our physiotherapists are chartered physio’s registered with the CSP and HCPC, which satisfies most insurance companies. We are also registered with the majority of companies to be a provider as well. Normally we require a pre-authorisation number and your membership/policy number before treatment. We will do the rest of the admin from here on, so you can relax and focus on your recovery.
What clothing should I wear?

Appropriate clothing will help us to assess the problem fully and develop the very best treatment plan for you. For an upper body assessment please bring a vest/t-shirt/crop-top or bra for females.

For a Lower body and lower back assessment please bring a pair of shorts. It is also helpful if you can bring the footwear you exercise in regularly.

What is physio?
Physiotherapy is a profession whose aim is to encourage and support the return to normal following illness, surgery, disease or trauma. This is often described as ‘rehabilitation’. So whether your problem is a sprained ankle, back pain, a stroke, a sports injury, an injury at work or many other different conditions, there will be a physiotherapist to help you get better. We specialise in helping active people aged 40 plus get back to enjoying the activity they love without reaching for pain relief and without worrying about surgery. We understand the frustration and concern that niggling pain brings and if it is intense enough to disturb your sleep we know how much that can affect your quality of life.
How can it help me?
We use a number of different techniques including manipulation and mobilisation, massage, exercise programmes, ultrasound, taping and acupuncture. Physiotherapy is science based and so all our treatments are supported by the latest evidence and research. Our current rehabilitation protocols combined with traditional physiotherapy, and sport science ensure you have the perfect combination to get relief your pain and get back to the optimal version of you. Reassurance and education about a problem will also give you the confidence to get back to your normal activities quickly and effectively.

I’m not an athlete or into sports can I still benefit from physiotherapy?

Of course! We treat all types of injuries, aches and pains. After all we are specialists in making you better and that means not having to take pain relief, worry about the need for surgery or making things worse or being able to get on with enjoying your life again.

How long will an appointment last?
Your first appointment will last 1 hour. This allows us plenty time to get to know you and your pain. We will then be able to do some specific tests, give you a diagnosis and explain in detail what it means for you. We will then also be able to get you started on the road to recovery with your treatment plan. We will email your exercises to you if needed and make sure you have the opportunity to ask any questions. Easy as that!

We accept all major cards, cash and checques. You can even pay in advance and save money with our package deals.
